If your chart came back with every one of the nine centers white, your authority is the Moon. That sounds like a strange sentence until you see the mechanics behind it, and then it becomes the most practical instruction in the whole system.
Lunar authority is the rarest one there is, because it belongs to the rarest type. Reflectors are about 1% of people, and they are the only design that decides on a clock instead of from a center.
What is lunar authority, mechanically?
Your authority is the part of your chart built to make decisions, and in Human Design it's a strict hierarchy. A defined Solar Plexus overrides everything else and gives you emotional authority. Below that comes the Sacral, then the Spleen, then the Ego, then the G center, then the mental or environmental process for certain Projectors. Lunar authority sits at the bottom of that list because there's nothing above it to claim the job. Every center is open.
Open doesn't mean empty. It means variable. An open center takes in and amplifies whatever is around it, so what you feel there today depends on the room you're standing in. A Reflector's whole chart works that way, which is a superb design for reading the world and a terrible one for finding a fixed inner yes.
So the design borrows a rhythm from outside the body. The Moon moves through all 64 gates in roughly 28 days, temporarily activating a different piece of your chart each day. Over one full circuit you get to experience a decision as every version of yourself your chart can produce. What survives that is real.
All of this hangs on having the correct chart in the first place. A single defined center makes you a different type entirely, and definition is sensitive to your exact birth time, so an hour of error can hand you the wrong authority. Who actually has lunar authority?
Reflectors only. All nine centers undefined, no exceptions, which is why lunar authority and Reflector are effectively the same fact stated twice. Chart software sometimes labels it "None (Lunar)" or "Lunar Cycle," and both mean the same thing.
The population math makes this the rarest seat in the system. Generators are around 37%, Manifesting Generators about 33%, Projectors roughly 20%, Manifestors about 9%, and Reflectors come in near 1%. Most people with lunar authority have gone their whole lives without meeting another one.
What does a lunar cycle feel like from the inside?
Like being several different people about the same question, in sequence.
On one day the opportunity looks obvious and you're ready to sign. Ten days later the same opportunity feels heavy and you can't remember why you liked it. A week after that it looks fine again, though for a different reason than the first time. Most Reflectors read this as being flaky or indecisive, and it's the design running exactly as built. The Moon is turning the chart to a new angle each day and showing you the choice from that angle.
Some Reflectors track it and find their own repeating shape: a stretch of the month that reliably brings clarity, another stretch that reliably brings doubt. A simple note in a calendar for a few months makes the pattern visible. Once you know your own weather, the doubtful days stop feeling like verdicts.
How do you make a decision with lunar authority?
Give the big choice a full circuit of the Moon, and talk it out along the way.
Start by refusing to answer on the spot. A Reflector's fast yes is usually the room's yes, absorbed and amplified and mistaken for your own. Buying time is the entire practice, and one honest sentence handles it: "I'll get back to you in a few weeks, that's genuinely how I decide."
Then move the question through the month out loud with two or three people you trust. They aren't advisors and they aren't voting. They're surfaces you talk against, and your own clarity shows up in the sound of your voice as you go. Reflectors often hear themselves land on the answer mid-sentence, days before their mind catches up.
Watch your environment while you do it. Where a Reflector sits changes what a Reflector feels, so notice which places make the choice look bright and which make it look grim, and treat that as data about the places. The right decision made in a draining room can still feel wrong there.
At the end of the cycle, check what stayed. The thing that felt good in the good weeks and still made sense in the flat weeks is yours.
What about the small decisions?
Nobody waits a month to pick a restaurant. The full cycle is reserved for choices that change the architecture of a life: a move, a relationship, a job, a big commitment of money or time.
Everything smaller gets a scaled-down version of the same move. Put a night between the question and the answer. Ask one trusted person. Step outside alone and see whether the yes is still there when nobody else's energy is in the room. The principle holds at every size, which is that a Reflector's truth needs a little time and a little distance to separate from everyone else's.
Surprise is the gauge
Every type has a signature feeling that says the design is running correctly, and a not-self theme that says something has gone sideways. For Reflectors the signature is surprise, that delighted sense of a life still capable of showing you something you didn't see coming. The not-self theme is disappointment, the flat conviction that there's nothing new under the sun.
Read disappointment as a report on pace and place rather than a report on you. It tends to show up after a stretch of rushed decisions, or after months in an environment that doesn't suit you. The repair is usually the same in both cases: change the room, and give the next choice its full month.
